DIY Garden Party Table Garland

Think lazy summer Sundays in the garden with a cocktail in hand.

I wanted to bring this feeling to life on the -even though we were on our sweaty rooftop in Singapore 😅. So I focused on a pastel mix of flowers on a simple table garland.

You will need:

  • Foliage greenery (eg. eucalyptus branches)

  • A mix of light pastel flowers.

Here’s my 3 tips for you to create your own.

1. Create an ‘S’ Shape Foliage base.

This is a simple and easy way to make a table garland. No special wire techniques, however I would only recommend this for no-wind climates. Here’s how to create one:

  • Start by cutting your leafy branches into smaller pieces.

  • Lay them down and make an ‘S’ shape base from one corner to the opposite diagonal corner of the table. Don’t make it straight, I usually try and get two curves in the middle of the table.

2. Add Soft Pastel Flowers.

When choosing the flowers at the market, I was looking for baby pinks, peach, lemon and white. These were the colours which came to mind when I thought of ‘garden party’.

When choosing the type of flowers, I typically work with this rule of thumb:

  • Big Focal flowers (10%) | eg. white chrysanthemums

  • Medium sized flowers (60%) | eg. white and pink roses and peach/lemon eustoma

  • Filler flowers (30%) | eg. white limonium.

3. Don’t Forget to Thoroughly Wash your Flowers & Branches.

“OMG ants in the hummus!” -is something you don’t ever want to hear. Luckily this has not happened, BUT it has been close.

I have learned that you must thoroughly wash all flowers and branches before cutting and placing them on the table. The last thing you want is a beautiful table with wild insects crawling on your guests plate!

This colour palette is perfect for a Summer or Spring table setting. It’s a touch romantic without being too overwhelmed by pink roses. I also love the no-wire garland as it is no fuss and less time consuming. Definitely worth a go for your next weekend dinner party.

Enjoy! xx
